Re-owning and diffusing the trigger of the shadow using playful embodied experiment.
How can we develop compassion for the parts of ourselves we dislike, disown or outsource?
How can we develop compassion for the people who massively wind us up, piss us off and maybe even end up being our boss, parent, spouse or governing our countries?
Easier said than done eh?
When an actor develops a character they have to find a way to empathise with the human, no matter how disturbing their behaviour. Because if we are in judgement, we cant also be inside the perspective of the person and if we cant be inside the perspective of the person, we cant tell their story.
This session explores how we can use these tools to grow more empathy for our shadow part. And our reactions to the shadow parts being acted out in others.
Let's see what we can discover and re-own - maybe even forgive - of the shadow.
Methods: Actor Training Tools. Physical Theatre tools. Michael Chekov. Improvisation. Jungian philosophy. Empathy.
Experience level: intermediate: Some kind of embodiment practice involving moving emotion could be useful for this session, though not essential... eg conscious dance, improvisation, therapeutic processes etc. You will be invited to play at your own useful edge and be responsible for how deeply you want to take this process.
This work is pedagogic in intent. It may have a therapeutic impact, but itis not therapy or a replacement for therapy.
